The Economics of Happiness Conferences
The Economics of Happiness Conferences
Our international Economics of Happiness conference series is focused on kick-starting broad critical debate about the global corporate economy, and on exploring alternatives that benefit society as well as the environment. The conferences, often co-hosted with local organizations, have been hailed as an antidote to anger, contraction and despair. The series is lighting the fuse for a new economy in many parts of the world simultaneously.
In each of these conferences, internationally-recognized leaders from the localization movement come together with local thinkers and activists for several days of plenary talks, panel discussions, and workshops aimed at critically examining the global economy and exploring systemic strategies for change.

Local Futures has been organizing Economics of Happiness Conferences in countries around the world since 2012, with a particular focus on the USA, South Korea, Italy, India, and Australia.
Local Futures has established a particularly close ongoing collaboration with the city government of Jeonju in South Korea, hosting Economics of Happiness conferences in the city for five years in a row. In 2019 we also held a conference in Ladakh, India, a place where Local Futures has deep roots and where the foundation for our international work was first laid in 1978.
