New Energy Economy
USA
New Energy Economy (NEE) is an initiative in New Mexico (US) dedicated to advancing community-based solutions to climate change that reduce pollution, create jobs, and strengthen the clean energy economy. NEE takes a multi-pronged approach to effecting positive change: they campaign against dirty and dangerous energy sources, such as coal and nuclear power plants; they promote innovative renewable energy policies to help transition New Mexico towards a new local energy economy; and they install community solar electric systems and energy efficiency projects throughout the state.
NEE’s Sol for ALL community-scale solar installation projects include a greenhouse with the Pueblo of Tesuque and the headquarters of Tewa Women United, an intertribal women’s support group. New Energy Economy is also opposing the Public Service Company of New Mexico’s replacement power plan for the soon-to-be-closed San Juan coal plant, and has developed an alternative plan that would take PNM’s energy profile to 30% renewables (wind and solar).
