Edventure Frome empowers cooperative community enterprises by hosting free 10-week courses that teach groups of young adults to design and create a place-based start-up venture together. An early student team created the Welsh Mill Hub, a community center with co-working offices, a commercial kitchen, and event spaces available for hourly rental. Later cohorts used the Mill Hub space to create more enterprises. The Community Fridge group enables people to drop off perishable food that would otherwise go to the landfill; anyone can then take the food home for free. The group redistributes more than 90,000 pounds of food this way every year. Another group set up Remakery:Frome, a ‘maker space’ with a wood shop, tools, courses, and monthly repair cafes. Yet another group created SHARE, a lending library with hundreds of home and garden tools, kitchen appliances, camping and sports equipment, and more. Keep checking the Edventure Frome website to see what these brilliant young adults build next!
