Helena Norberg-Hodge to speak at the
International Conference for Transition City

Local Futures’ founder Helena Norberg-Hodge will be part of this conference focused on practical ways to facilitate the ecological transition of Seoul and other mega-cities. The conference will examine the situation on the ground in various cities, and consider policy examples from around the world, through a mix of keynote speeches, presentations and panel discussions.
Prior to the conference, Helena will give a lecture on Wednesday September 25th (13.30 – 15.00) at the Innovation Park in Seoul.
She will then speak at the conference itself on Thursday September 26th (10.20 – 10.50) on the topic ‘Beyond GDP: Toward Human and Ecological Wellbeing‘.

The keynote addresses and presentations on the first day will center on ideas and proposals for the ecological transition of modern society and will explore the necessity and potential of an alternative index to replace GDP as a new compass for guiding the way to a sustainable future. The topics discussed will be: ‘Toward Civilizational Transition’, ‘Beyond GDP’ and ‘Climate Crisis and Response of Cities’.
On the second day, the presentations and discussions will focus specifically on sustainable development and happiness indexes, including the sharing of experiences from cities around the world, which will provide the basis for setting the course for Seoul’s bold transition to a new society. The topics discussed on this day will be: ‘Transition of Cities and Sustainable Indexes’, ‘The Next Generation and the SDGs’ and ‘Transition of Cities and Happiness Indexes’.
