The International Alliance for Localization (IAL) is a cross-cultural network of thinkers, activists and NGOs dedicated to exploring radically new visions of development and progress.
The IAL will operate on two separate but closely related fronts: resistance and renewal. Our aim is to help reverse the process of economic globalization while simultaneously encouraging the regeneration of healthy ecosystems and communities.
We provide a big picture analysis to unite diverse groups in both North and South — from business leaders and labor unions to farmers, social justice activists, environmentalists and indigenous people.
An effective solution-multiplier
Localization is not about eliminating international trade, or reducing all economic activity to a village level, but about shifting the power from transnational corporations to nation states, while simultaneously building up regional self-reliance. Learn more:
People and groups from 58 different countries have joined the IAL to date.
Join the IAL
We believe that localization can unite diverse groups in a movement powerful enough to turn the tide and point the way to a better world. The IAL is open to individuals and groups alike.
Benefits of Being a Member
As an IAL member you will have the opportunity to engage in internal communication with other members, join in upcoming IAL activities, find possible partners for global-to-local projects and gain access to shared resources and valuable experiences.
The IAL builds on the social networks Local Futures has developed over more than three decades of global-to-local work across the globe.
We are pleased to announce Local Futures’ Global to Local Webinar Series, monthly online events that seek to address key issues in the global to local debate. We hope you will participate. All Global to Local Webinars are free to all IAL members:
